European Parliament assesses Josep Borrell's candidature as EU’s new high representative

On October 7, 2019, the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee assessed the candidacy of Josep Borrell (Spanish minister of foreign affairs) as the EU’s new high representative for foreign affairs and security policy.  During his introductory speech, Borrell underlined the importance of addressing the challenges in the EU’s southern neighborhood, developing a new strategy towards Africa,  stepping up cooperation with Latin America, working on political relations with Asia and reinstating transatlantic relations with the United States.
