German development minister calls for new EU pact with Africa
The German minister for economic cooperation and development, Gerd Müller, wants to strengthen the role of Africa in the Green Deal plan put forward by Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the EU commission. In his perspective, energy, climate protection, food security, the fight against poverty, and improved trade relations in and with Africa should be a focus of the EU’s Green Deal. He added that the EU has to catch up with China in financing investments and innovation programs across the African continent.
Von der Leyen's Green Deal, presented in 2019, is an ambitious plan to make the EU climate-neutral by 2050 through new regulations, economic incentives, and investments.
