Spain’s coalition government plans to increase ODA to 0.5% of GNI by 2023

The social-democratic Spanish Socialist Workers Party (PSOE) of acting Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and the left-wing Podemos party have released a coalition government agreement that includes an increase of Spain’s official development assistance (ODA) to 0.5% of its gross national income (GNI) by the end of the next four-year term of office. Among other measures, this governing agreement places multilateralism and African development as key priorities of Spain’s foreign policy from now to the end of 2023.

The Spanish civil society network organization Poletika has reacted positively to this governing agreement, emphasizing the necessity to translate all these plans into political action with corresponding, significant budget increments.
