Spain’s AECID commemorates "Aid Professionals' Day" with study launch

The Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) has launched a study that analyses the number and characteristics of the Spanish citizens working in development cooperation programs. The study was launched on September 8, in recognition of "Aid Professionals' Day".

According to the AECID, up to 2,808 Spaniards are involved in development-related projects in 96 countries around the world. Of these, 56% are women and 44% are men. While 42% of the Spanish humanitarian professionals are priests, nuns, and other religious personnel, 32% are members of development NGOs and only 6% are civil servants from the AECID. Most work in Sub-Saharan Africa (42%) and Latin America (30%)
