Spain to fund water and sanitation development in Ecuador

Spanish prime minister Pedro Sánchez’s cabinet approved a US$40 million contribution to a water sanitation initiative in Quito, Ecuador. The funding, a total of US$221 million, will be provided by the foreign ministry’s Spanish Development Fund (FONPRODE) to the Program for Drinking Water and Sewage in Quito.

In addition to Spain’s FONPRODE, the Inter-American Development Bank (IABD) and the Public Metropolitan Water Company of Quito will also support the project, with contributions of US$87.1 million and US$93.9 million, respectively.
