Sweden provides support for drought relief in Somalia

To address impacts of the current drought affecting large parts of East Africa, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) has increased its support to Somalia by SEK50 million (US$6 million), through the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the Somalia Humanitarian Fund.

In hopes that a timely effort can help avert an acute famine in the country, the contribution will mainly be used to support people suffering from acute malnutrition, particularly children as well as pregnant and breastfeeding women. In addition, funds will be used to strengthen access to water and sanitation for those directly affected by the drought.
