Swedish ambassador to assist in review of UN peacebuilding activities

On February 7, 2020, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres appointed Swedish Ambassador Annika Söder to be part of an advisory group reviewing UN peacebuilding activities. The group is expected to prepare recommendations feeding into the Secretary General’s 2020 report on UN peacebuilding.

“It's an honorable and important mission," said Söder. "The UN needs to further strengthen its efforts to build sustainable peace and peaceful societies. I look forward to contributing to the future direction of this core task for the UN. Not least in terms of resources to prevent and avoid conflict relapses and in the role of women in peace processes.”

Sweden has long been an active participant in UN peacebuilding activities. Sweden was President of the UN Peacebuilding Commission in 2015 and is one of the largest donors to the UN Peacebuilding Fund.
