UK international development minister praises partnership with Canada on gender equality

UK international development minister Penny Mordaunt highlighted the success of the UK’s strategic partnership with the Canadian government on gender equality at a Women Deliver’s event at the High Commission of Canada in the United Kingdom in London on April 8. In September 2017, Prime Minister Theresa May and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced a new partnership between the two countries to champion gender equality, which so far has included co-hosting a multi-sector Safe Abortion dialogue in London in January 2019 and presenting a united front at the UN Commission on the Status of Women in March 2019.

Mordaunt also announced the launch of a new £42 million (US$52 million) program supporting sexual and reproductive health and rights. The program will be led by Marie Stopes International and the International Planned Parenthood Federation.
