Australian foreign assistance declines as share of federal budget
Following the release of the new federal budget for 2019-2020, the Australian National University showing Development Policy Centre published graphs the continuing decline in Australia’s development spending. Australian official development assistance (ODA) reached its highest level at just above US$3.6 billion (A$5 billion) in 2012-2013. The Policy Centre’s analysis shows there has been a sharp drop since then and Australian ODA has returned to the same level it was a decade ago.
Australian ODA as a percentage of gross national income (GNI) is expected to fall to 0.2% in 2020-2021.
