Australia to host international disaster risk conference focused on Indo-Pacific

Australian Foreign Affairs Minister Maurice Payne announced that Australia will host an international conference next year to enhance government understanding of disaster risks and strengthen the ability to respond to disasters across the Indo-Pacific. The 2020 Asia Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction will be held in Brisbane on June 23-26, 2020. According to Payne, in 2018, seven of the 10 countries with the highest disaster-related deaths were in the Indo-Pacific region.

The  conference is for government, business, researchers, and communities to discuss action on reducing the costs of disasters in the region.
