Canada funds human rights journalists in Africa and the Middle East

On World Press Freedom Day, Canada's Minister of International Development and Minister for Women and Gender Equality, Maryam Monsef, announced that Canada will provide  US$9 million to human rights journalists over the four years. This funding will help the media protect the rights of women and girls in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, and the Middle East.

Using the funds, Canadian media organizations and the 'Canada World: Voice for Women and Girls' project will train journalists, public authorities, and civil society groups on the ethical and responsible inclusion of a gender-sensitive human rights approach in media activities. The intention of the project is to foster more informed, credible, fact-based public dialogue on human-rights issues affecting women and girls.
