Norway's Christian Democratic party pushes to increase development focus on agriculture and food security

In summer 2019, the Norwegian government will present a new action plan on food security and agriculture in development cooperation. Traditionally, smallholder farmers and fishermen have been the focus of Norway's development assistance. A new report published by the Norwegian research institute Fafo recommends that smallholder farmers remain a focus within the new plan.

In 2017, the Norwegian parliament asked for food security and climate smart agriculture to become its own focus area. The Christian Democratic Party highlighted at the Fafo report launch that this is very important given the link between food security, health, and education.
