G7 environment ministerial meeting adopts biodiversity charter

At a meeting in Metz, France on May 6, 2019, G7 environment ministers adopted a non-binding charter to protect biodiversity. The joint communiqué excludes the US in the section related to climate change following US President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw the US from the Paris climate agreement.

The ministerial meeting included representatives from non-G7 countries such as Mexico, Chile, Niger, Gabon, India, Fiji, and Norway.
