Global Summit on Family Planning in London

Co-hosted by Priti Patel, the UK's International Development Secretary, Babatunde Osotimehin, Executive Director of UNFPA, and Melinda Gates, the Global Summit on Family Planning takes place in London on July 10, 2017. The event occurs amid concerns about the US administration's decision to ban funding for organizations involved in abortion provision overseas. According to Patel, the event “will help secure renewed global commitment to family planning services, with a particular focus on the poorest and most vulnerable”.

US President Trump's reinstatement of the 'global gag rule' is expected to lead to a significant fall in funding for family planning and women’s health programs in developing countries.
