Norwegian Liberal Party proposes increasing foreign affairs budget by US$47.6 million

Norway's opposition Liberal party presented its alternative state budget this week, proposing an additional US$47.6 million across the following areas within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA):

  • US$9.3 million to combat marine pollution
  • US$5.6 million to civil society
  • US$6.2 million to Tunisia to stimulate the transition to increased democracy
  • US$6.2 million to combat international environmental crime
  • US$3.3 million to research

The Liberals proposed decreasing MFA allocations to the following:

  • US$6.2 million to Ethiopia
  • US$11.2 million to Latin America
