Spain appoints High Commissioner for 2030 Agenda

Spain’s prime minister Pedro Sánchez has appointed former Undersecretary General of the United Nations for Communications and Public Information Cristina Gallach as new High Commissioner for the 2030 Agenda. Gallach will head the recently created High Committee for the 2030 Agenda, which is based at the PM’s office La Moncloa, to steer the implementation of the sustainable development goals (SDGs) agenda by Spain. From 2017 to date, Gallach served as Gender and Equal Opportunities Adviser at the Council of the European Union.

Spanish development NGOs Oxfam Intermón, Unicef, and WWF reacted to this appointment with a joint press release underlying that the creation of the new High Committee for the 2030 Agenda within La Moncloa was a great opportunity to strengthen sustainable development policies.
