USAID releases new international basic education strategy
As required by the Reinforcing Education Accountability in Development Act (READ Act; P.L. 115-56), the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) issued a strategy on international basic education for 2019 to 2023. The strategy demonstrates the US' "commitment to international education and presents an opportunity to advance global diplomatic and development leadership on pressing international education challenges".
According to USAID, the strategy has two primary objectives: 1) to improve learning outcomes, and 2) to expand the access to basic education to all, with a particular focus on marginalized and vulnerable populations. The strategy also recognizes the ability of investments in education to be a force multiplier for other US investments in global development.
