South Korea announces steps to strengthen role in UN peacekeeping

Foreign Minister Kyung-wha Kang of South Korea announced the country's commitment to enhance its role in UN peacekeeping, a flagship activity of the UN. She also announced that South Korea will host the next UN Peacekeeping Ministerial in 2020, becoming the first Asian country to host the event. She stressed that South Korea will not only provide assistance with training and equipment but also increase South Korean service women’s participation in peacekeeping. South Korea hopes to expand its role in the issues of international peace and security and become a member of the UN Security Council for the 2024-2025 term.
