US President Joe Biden's FY2023 budget request included the largest ever amount to promote gender equality -- US$2.6 billion. A USAID official announced this week that the agency will use the money to both explicitly promote equality and empowerment and to address specific barriers in programs that are not focused on gender.
Part of the new approach will be to ask partners to collect gender data, undertake gender analyses, and submit a gender plan of action. The plan will also serve as a tool to monitor performance.
The US$2.6 billion is part of the FY2023 budget request that has not yet been approved by Congress.
