Canada announces US$178 million to support development needs in South Sudan

During a recent visit to South Sudan, Harjit S. Sajjan, Canada’s Minister of International Development, announced CA$223 million (US$178 million) in new assistance funding to address food security and development assistance in the country, as well as assist in child protection in peacekeeping.

This funding comprises CA$203 million (US$162 million) in bilateral development assistance which will go towards supporting food security, gender equality and access to health services. The remaining CA$21 million (US$17 million) will support urgent needs including protection, food, nutrition, health, and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services to conflict-affected populations.
