Italy's Meloni affirms government's commitment to fighting climate change

On November 8, 2022, on her first trip out of Europe, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni attended the COP 27 conference in Sharm el-Sheik, Egypt.

Meloni recommitted to the fight against climate change. In particular, she declared that Italy remains firmly committed to pursuing its decarbonization pathway in full compliance with the goals of the Paris Agreement.

Furthermore, Meloni highlighted Italy's commitment to climate finance during the October 2021 G20 meeting, at which Italy tripled its financial commitment to US$1.4 billion for the period of 2022-2026, including €840 million (US$834 million) through the new 'Italian Climate Fund.'

Meloni also confirmed Italy's commitment to delivering on the US$100 billion pledge to support low- and middle- income countries by 2025.
