New director of JICA's Ogata Research Institute will center SDGs in COVID-19 crisis response

As of October 1, 2020, Takahiro Akio was appointed as the new director of the Japan International Cooperation Agency’s (JICA) Ogata Sadako Research Institute for Peace and Development.

Takahiro Akio highlighted the importance of enhancing Japan’s research and communication activities and strengthening Japan’s intellectual presence abroad. The JICA Ogata Research Institute has also set its new vision as “co-creating practical knowledge for peace and development”. Under this vision, the JICA Ogata Research Institute will provide feedback on JICA projects, as well as undertake research on new development issues, such as promoting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in light of the COVID-19 crisis. The JICA Ogata Research Institute will also support human resource development and knowledge exchange, as well as promote the JICA Development Studies Program (JICA-DSP).
