Sweden reallocates US$36 million for humanitarian support in Afghanistan

On September 2, 2021, Sweden decided to reallocate SEK 300 million (US$37 million) from its official development assistance (ODA) in response to the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Afghanistan.

To ensure that the Taliban regime does not benefit from Swedish ODA, Sweden stopped support for all state actors. The reallocated funds, which were previously channeled through the Afghanistan Reconstruction Trust Fund (ARTF) and managed by the World Bank, will now benefit humanitarian operations.
