South Korea highlights commitment to global discussion on women, peace and security

South Korea's foreign minister, Kang Kyung-wha, has announced South Korea's commitment to advancing the global discussion and implementation of the United Nation's (UN) women, peace and security agenda, particularly in light of persisting sexual violence in conflict zones.

South Korea will hold the first international conference on 'Action with Women and Peace' on July 2-3, 2019, as well as provide US$8 million to support projects designed to 1) respond to sexual violence in conflict, 2) ensure women’s participation and gender equality in South Korea’s peacekeeping operations, 3) enhance women’s representation in the areas of peace and security, and 4) strengthen partnership with civil society on the issue.
