EU pledges US$1 billion to G20 'Just Energy Transition Partnership' with Indonesia

On November 17, 2022, The EU pledged to contribute over €1 billion (US$1 billion) to the new G20 'Just Energy Transition Partnership' to help Indonesia phase out coal.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced the pledge at the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment event during the G20 Summit in Indonesia. The partnership aims to mobilize US$20 billion to support Indonesia's efforts to transition to renewable and sustainable energy sources.

The announcement was accompanied by a pledge by Von der Leyen to invest €4 billion (US$4 billion) renewable energy worldwide through the EU’s 'Global Gateway' investment initiative over the next five years.
