South Korea proposes new consultative body to assist emerging DAC donors with ODA leadership

The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) plans to initiate a consultative body consisting of emerging donors to expand international development cooperation partnership. The proactive action is largely based on South Korea’s transition from a recipient country to a Development Assistance Committee (DAC) donor.

South Korea hopes to share its unique knowledge about the transition from recipient to donor with other emerging donors. This consultative body will outline a model for emerging donors to develop strategies to help low-income countries with development assistance in addition to forming strengthened cooperation among emerging donors. With KOICA’s capability and experience in development assistance, cooperation among emerging donors will hopefully pave the way for South Korea to become a leading nation for ODA in contribution size as well as strategy.
