Spain to disburse 20% of Special Drawing Rights to vulnerable countries, donate additional 20 million COVID-19 vaccines

At the G20 summit held in Rome, Italy, on October 31, 2021, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced that Spain will disburse 20% of its new Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) to low- and middle-income partner countries.

At least €350 million (US$412 million) will go to the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) Poverty Reduction and Growth Trust and the remaining funds will go to the IMF’s new fund on resilience and sustainability.

In addition, Sánchez announced that Spain will donate an additional 20 million COVID-19 vaccines to vulnerable countries in 2022; the commitment adds to Spain’s former dose donation of 30 million for 2021.
